K5 Music (2 Semesters)

Kindergarten music is a full year course in which students meet twice a week to learn the basics of beginning level music such as reading rhythms, singing with and without other students, expressing music through movement exercises, and learning solfege singing syllables and hand signs. Students will have a Christmas program in December and will learn music for their Kindergarten Celebration in May.

 

1st Grade Music (2 Semesters)

2nd grade music is a full year course in which students meet twice a week to learn the basics of beginning level music such as reading rhythms, singing with and without other students, expressing music through movement exercises, and learning solfege singing syllables and hand signs. Students will have a Christmas program in December and spring program in May.

 

3rd Grade Music (2 Semesters)

3rd grade music is a full year course in which students meet twice a week to learn the basics of beginning level music such as reading rhythms, learning notation, reading music notes, and playing the recorder with and without other students. Students will have a Christmas program in December and Spring program in May. There is a fee for recorders to be determined per year.

 

4th Grade Music (2 Semesters)

4th grade music is a full year course in which students meet twice a week to learn the basics of beginning level music such as reading rhythms, learning notation, reading music notes, and playing the recorder with and without other students. Students will have a Christmas program in December and Spring program in May. There is a fee for recorders to be determined per year.

 

5th Grade Choir (2 Semesters)
Middle School Course

This course is required of all 5th grade students. First semester students will learn music and voice parts for a Christmas choir concert. Second semester students will learn music and voice parts for a Spring choir concert. Students will also learn proper vocal techniques (diction, breathing, etc.), notation, and develop a better ear for music.

 

5th Grade Music History Rotation (1 Quarter)
Middle School Course

This course is a required rotation class for all students in the 5th grade. Students will learn about all time periods of music from biblical times to present day through power point presentations, reading assignments, and worksheets. Students will develop and present a composer project at the end of the quarter.

 

6th Grade Music of World Cultures Rotation (1 Quarter)
Middle School Course

This course is a required rotation class for all students in the 6th grade. Students will learn about music in other cultures around the world through reading assignments, videos, and note taking. Students will be expected to develop and present a project on a country and its music at the end of the quarter.

 

Middle School Choir (1 Semester- May repeat in 2nd semester)
Middle School Semester Elective

This course is offered to students’ grades 6-8 that enjoy singing in groups. First semester students will learn music and voice parts for a Christmas choir concert. Second semester students will learn music and voice parts for a spring choir concert. Students will also learn proper vocal techniques (diction, breathing, etc.), notation, develop a better ear for music, and have the option of competing in the District ISSMA Solo and Ensemble competition 2nd semester. It is not required to participate in both semesters, but it is highly encouraged.

 

Music Appreciation (1 Semester)
High School Semester Elective

Music Appreciation is a class offered to students’ grades 9-12 interested in learning more about music but do not have a desire for a performance-based class. Students will be introduced to music through music theory, listening assignments, cultural music, music through the decades, and music in media. This course is only offered 2nd semester.
